Grammar Activities Rationale
The first grammar activity is geared towards searching for grammar words in the text and identifying (analyze) them as a noun, verb, or adjective. Once the student has identified the word they will list it under the correct "private investigator" file in the Grammar Briefcase. This activity is an engaging way for students to search through the book and identify the different parts of grammar. The activity relates to:
- Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs. (L.K.1.b)
The second grammar activity is geared towards using a verb from the story and re-writing (synthesis) it in its past, present, and future tense. The student has their own three-fold graphic organizer that will have the verb written and then sentences in the correct tense below. Once the student has finished the three different tensed sentences they can flip through the book and view how the word changes. To further practice this the student can click on the rocket ship and play a game that applies what the student has just learned. The activity relates to:
- Form and use the past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs (L.2.1.d)
